Abstract

In order to study the influence of structure parameters of explosively formed projectile(EFP)on flight characteristics in water, the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA was used to simulate the EFP simulated model with different-structural-parameters penertrating water. The factors influencing flight characteristics of simulated EFP in water were presented. The results indicate that EFP skirt length and core thickness are positive correlated with EFP velocity in water, and the attenuation of EFP velocity decreases with the increase of skirt length and core thickness. The EFP mass abrasion is primarily due to the loss of skirt part. When EFP enters water at different velocity, the attenuation of relative velocity ve/v0 maintains consistent under the conditions of velocity decreasing to 60%; the ve/v0 attenuation increases with the increase of enter-velocity while the velocity is less than 60%. Projectile material density has an important role in the process of velocity attenuation of EFP traveling in water. The velocity attenuation and mass abrasion are gradually slow with the increase of density. The change of velocity and mass are nearly consistent at similar density.
