Atomization Characteristics of Gelled Gasoline in PDE Ignition Chamber

Abstract

In order to investigate the atomization characteristics of gelled gasoline in pulse detonation engine(PDE), the Sauter mean diameter(SMD)of gelled gasoline in the PDE ignition chamber was tested by Malvern particle sizer. The protection cavity was designed to reduce the SMD. The experiments indicate that the SMD increases with the increase of air supply pressure of PDE without protection cavity. The protection cavity can effectively improve the spray effect of air supply pressure on impingement atomization, and the SMD decreases with the increase of air supply pressure of PDE by installing protection cavity. The smaller the protection-cavity size, the smaller the SMD is.
