Research on Kill Efficiency of Controllable Discrete Rod Warhead

Abstract

To obtain the kill efficiency of controllable discrete rods warhead on armed helicopter, the function, structure, key components and damage criteria of the helicopter were analyzed by taking an armed helicopter for an example. The power description model of controllable discrete rod warhead(CDRW)was established. The calculation method of lethal area of the rod warhead to helicopter was studied. The lethal area of CDRW to helicopter on the different interception condition was calculated. The results show that the lethal area reaches maximum of KK-kill while the warhead horizontally hitting the helicopter with the yaw angle of 45°. The killing capability of warhead is weakest under the conditions of head-on attact, and the lethal area corresponding to C-kill, A-kill and KK-kill under the helicopter yaw-angle of 180° are 49.6%, 66.8% and 11.2% of the lethal area under the helicopter yaw-angle of 45°, respectively. The influence of the rolling angle on the lethal area is negligible. The lethal areas corresponding to C-kill, A-kill decrease with the missile velocity of the range of 550~1 050 m/s, and the lethal areas decrease by 19.4% and 5.7% respectively. The lethal area of KK-kill increases first and then decreases, and the killing capability is the strongest while under the warhead terminal-velocity of 850 m/s.
